Over the last few weeks Fiona and I have made two cakes. The first was a Christmas cake based on an idea in Delicious magazine using fine piping and gold roses. We were pleased with the result and it tasted good too. I made a wheat free fruit cake and my own marzipan which was worlds away from the bought stuff.

The second cake for to celebrate a 90th Birthday, but not for your average 90-year-old. This was for a man who practices yoga with the WEA and swims twice a week. He’s an inspiration to us all. Fiona had  a go at a fondant figure  for the first time and it looked amazing like the 90-year-old in question, but judge for yourself. Christmas Cards

Just a few of the Christmas cards I’ve made this year. I made them using ideas from the Craft Stamper magazine and background techniques learned on a WEA advanced card making course. I tried to use supplies I already had and it really stretched my creativity.

WEA Card Making Course

Last weekend I finished a 2 Saturday WEA card making course. We had great fun and learnt a number of new techniques including wax crayons with stamping  and kiss stamping. For the crayon technique we needed to melt the wax I my heating tool was so fierce I blow wax across the table and almost set fire to my card which ended up  in the bin.  We also learnt to make three new cards: the twisted easel, double twisted easel and pull-tab card. We all loved the easel card , but hated the tab card as it was so fiddly.

Here are some of the cards made by the class:

This is the twisted easel card using the melted wax crayon technique.

Miniature Book

I thought I’d show some of the things I’ve made recently. This is a miniature book I made on a wonderful WEA card making course back in March. The tutor Angela Cutting is one of by favourite artists and an inspiration. Her blog Angela’s Ink Spot is well worth a look.
